After a year off for COVID, the Council ran the Garden Competition this year.
There were a lot of really nice displays around our Village and on a sunny July Evening, 4 Councillors spent a few hours covering all the roads in the Village and awarding prizes to those gardens that could be seen from the roadside/pavement.
We all know that there are some amazing hidden ones too but these couldn't be seen!
After a lot of years the Ted Mayhew trophy for the best group of houses was 'retired' and replaced with a brand new 'John Mann MBE Shield' in tribute to our recently departed long serving Councillor.
John was a stalwart of the Annual Garden Competition and he is sorely missed.
After much deliberation the judges awarded the following prizes which were presented to the winners with a certificate at the Fun Day on Sunday 15 August -
Best Small Garden - Mr Martin and Ms Start, 8 Michaelhouse Way
Best Large Garden - Mr and Mrs Gibson, Orchard House, Dale Road
Best Basket/container - Mr Palmer, 48 Michaelhouse Way
Best Group of houses - 102 -106 Hepworth Rd
Best Non Resident Garden - Upthorpe Lodges, Upthorpe Road
Best Allotment (Peter Sorrell Cup) - Number 13 - Mr and Mrs Reed
Thank you to all residents who have taken the time this year to make the front of their properties look colourful and tidy. It is much appreciated by all.
